I knew you would know to ask. It lets me finish the play in the way that I couldn't finish the actual play with a hidden revelation:The depressed leader of the group made the coffee and the cookies - they're homemade. He is currently hanging by his neck backstage.
He probably got depressed when no one else came.
Obviously, Sam, he was not a happy man. His group never really got off the ground. It's important to remember that the members of this group were sick. They were addicted to suicide. A dangerous weakness, to be sure.
